The primary classes had a fun winter play day organized by our grade 6 leaders. The snow arrived just in time. We played freeze tag, freeze dance, snowball throw, snow soccer, hockey shootout and sledding. We discovered we could score very easily on our principal, Mr. Brownlee when he attempted to take over as goalie from our grade 6 leaders. We also enjoyed hot chocolate provided by our local Country Style. Thank you to our grade 6 teachers Mrs. Fair and Mrs. Major for helping us discover the magic of snow and inspiring us to be active in the winter. Thank you also to our Fieldcrest parent volunteers!

Pyjama Day at Fieldcrest
We came close to keeping the Spirit Trophy again this month. Check out our tally graph: Are you wearing pyjamas? We graciously handed the trophy over to Ms. Milak/Mrs. Muhar’s and Mrs. Rawson’s classes who tied for first place. Congratulations to these classes. Next spirit day is March 31st and it is crazy hair day. Let’s win the trophy back in room 102. Go Kindergarten Falcons!
Happy Valentine’s!
Valentine’s Day is always a favourite in kindergarten. The children created Valentine bags and delivered their valentines to their friends. Finally the day arrived and we were able to open our valentines. What excitement! The children could be heard yelling across the classroom saying “thank you” or “I love it”. Thank you to all families from Mrs. T. and Mrs. McLeod. We were yelling across the room too!
Celebrating 100 Days of Kindergarten
We had a 100’s Day Party in all the kindergarten classrooms. We have been at school for 100 days. The children rotated through the kindergarten classes. They counted 100 pieces of trail mix and did a 100 movement workout. They made a 100’s Day hat and necklace. They painted a 100 circle shaped caterpillar and created a 100 marble jar. The children were asked what they would spend $100 on and what store they would shop at. Our favourites stores were Toys R Us and the Dollar Store.

Chinese New Year
Chinese New Year in room 102! We decorated our room with red and gold lanterns. Red means good luck and happiness in China. We cleaned our classroom more than usual to sweep away the bad luck from last year and to welcome in good luck for the new year. We learned that the children receive little red envelopes with money that will bring more good luck. We sang the song “Lantern Parade”. “Gung Hay Fat Choy! Happy New Year!”
Describing Position and Location
We have been working on spatial relationships (e.g. above/below, inside/outside, in front/behind, up/down. We have been using the positional terms such as between, middle, beside and next to. The children partnered up and practiced describing the position of the hidden bear. “The bear is between the cups.” “The bear is behind the cup.” We placed the children’s backpacks around the room and they had to describe where they found it. “My backpack is under the table.”
