Latkes for Hanukkah

img_54101
Today we made latkes for Hanukkah. We mixed together eggs (or apple sauce), water and the latke mix. We let it set for a few minutes and then cooked them with some oil. Tiny the Elf from the North Pole even had a plate ready to try some. How did he know we were making them today. Must be Christmas magic! Mr. Brownlee followed the yummy smell down the hall and of course joined us as well.

Festive Hat Day at Fieldcrest

Today was another fun spirit day at Fieldcrest school. Check out our wonderful hats for Festive Hat Day. We have also been collecting items for our food toy and drive and placing these under our Christmas tree in our school foyer. We are hoping to collect enough to fill our principal Mr. Brownlee’s office in order to “can” him from his office for a morning. We have collected 36 items in room 102. Can we make it to 100? We really want to see Mr. Brownlee in the hallway working on his laptop!img_53461

Santa’s Workshop

The children turned our Dramatic Play centre into Santa’s Workshop and have brought in items from home to include in the centre such as wrapping paper, tape and toys. They have been dressing as elves and have a list of good boys and girls. They have been going around asking and recording what their friends would like for Christmas from Santa.

Tiny the Elf has Arrived From the North Pole

A scout elf named Tiny has arrived with his Christmas magic which allows him to fly to and from the North Pole. Tiny serves as Santa’s eyes and ears to see if we are naughty or nice and reports our behaviour back to Santa each night. Each morning Tiny returns in a new spot in the classroom. The students are not to touch Tiny as he will lose his magic. He arrived in a hot air balloon and has been found wrapped in Christmas paper and lots of tape. He has been found in our craft area playing with our shape stickers and he also made a paper snowflake out of a circle. We love searching for Tiny each morning and our teachers wish Tiny could come every month!img_53441

Author Rotation in Kindergarten Classrooms

This week all the kindergarten classes circulated through the classrooms and read many stories written by many well known authors. Some of these included “Don’t Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus” by Mo Willems, “The Very Hungry Caterpillar” by Eric Carle, “One Fish, two fish red fish blue fish” by Dr. Suess and “The Mitten” by Jan Brett. Check out our folders with some of the activities we created during our rotation. Laced mittens, Pete the Cat hats, fish in a bowl and a shaped bus were some of the things we created. img_53291

Worms in Dirt Snack

img_53261

Who knew worms and dirt were so yummy? This week we followed an easy recipe ‘Dirt Pudding Cups with Gummy Worms’. Thank you to those families who donated the ingredients. We found out worms have many predators such as skunks, snails, toads, turtles, snakes and birds and hedgehogs too. We decided to be worms and eat the dirt (oreo crumbs) and then be predators and eat the worms (gummy worms).
