The Three Little Pigs

picmonkeycollage3pigsAfter reading the story The 3 Little Pigs, the children wanted to create their house at the house centre. We talked about what we needed and could bring from home or make at school. Mrs. McLeod found some containers we could re-use as bricks and we painted shoeboxes as well. The children found sticks on the school yard and also brought in some pig stuffies and a wolf. They created the 3 houses at the craft table: hay, sticks and bricks. What a great way to retell the story of the 3 Little Pigs. Our favourite part was : “Little pig, little pig, let me come in!”

Jump Rope for Heart

IMG_1173 copy (2)We had our  Jump Rope For Heart on May 14th. The children participated in many activities with skipping ropes: helicopter, snakey snakey, limbo, etc. Thank you to the grade 7/8 students for running the activities and leading us around. Thank you to those families who donated to the Heart and Stroke Foundation. We have raised more than $3000 so the students can take part in a trike race with their teachers and we can also duct tape Mr. Brownlee and Ms. Booth to the wall with duct tape on the last day of school. Congratulations Falcons!!

Release of the Butterflies

Butterfly

Yesterday Mrs. Cadieux and Mr. Taylor’s class invited all the kindergarten classes outside as they released the monarch butterflies from their indoor home. There were many squeals and yells as each one took flight for the first time. Some took off right away and others were a little reluctant to leave. We all made a wish before they were let go.

Measurement in the Shoe Store

IMG_1194In math we have been working on measurement. We have been using simple terms such as short, long, light, heavy, big, small, empty and full. We traced our shoes and measured how long they were using cubes, links and bread tags. The children created a shoe store and filled it with many shoes and shoeboxes from home. They lined up chairs for customers to try the shoes on. Mrs. Trimis displayed all our shoes in a wooden display case. Mrs. Mcleod wanted to go shoe shopping because she loves shoes but there were too many customers!

Caterpillars in Kindergarten

PicMonkey CollageWe have been learning about caterpillars this month. We had many questions.  Do butterflies lay eggs? What do caterpillars eat? What animals eat caterpillars? How does a caterpillar change into a butterfly? What do butterflies eat? We were so excited when Mrs. Cadieux and Mr. Taylor’s kindergarten class received some caterpillars for their classroom. We have been sneaking down to their classroom to have a peek and check on the changes. We have seen them grow, build their chrysalis and we are awaiting the caterpillars to change into butterflies. We also learned the parts of an insect and built our own out of marshmallows, pretzels, licorice and raisins. Thank you to those families who donated these items. Who knew bugs could taste so good!
